Shiny latex kitten

Mary Shields spent the entire day in latex, but this was something new even for her. For this shoot, she wore a full-coverage latex mask layered with a cosplay shell on top, restrictive, silent, and immersive. It sealed off nearly all sensory input: her hearing was muted, vision completely blocked, breathing guided through nasal tubes, and a gag kept her from speaking. Despite all of this, or maybe because of it, Mary described the feeling as intense and strangely freeing.

This was her first time experiencing modeling with this level of isolation, and it completely altered the dynamic. She wasn’t performing for the camera in the traditional sense; she had to trust the moment, her body, and my direction without feedback or awareness of the surrounding scene. That lack of control gave the shoot an unexpected authenticity. Every pose was guided by instinct, posture, and mood rather than visual feedback.

The industrial setting of cranes and containers provided a raw contrast to the sculptural, almost surreal look of the outfit. It was a visual clash of function and fantasy. This shoot wasn’t about capturing beauty in the conventional sense; it was about presence, tension, and transformation. For Mary, it became less about modeling and more about becoming the character. For me, it was a chance to explore how far fashion photography can go when everything familiar is stripped away.
