Behind the Scenes: Our Studio Setup

A rare look at the equipment, lighting rigs, and workflow that goes into every latexperiment shoot.

People often ask what goes on behind the camera at latexperiment. Today we are pulling back the curtain for an honest look at our studio setup and shooting workflow.

Our permanent studio space in Berlin is built around a 6×8 metre shooting area with seamless paper rolls in twelve colours. The lighting rig consists of three Profoto B10 monolights and two large octaboxes, supplemented by V-flat reflectors for fill and flagging.

For latex photography specifically, lighting presents unique challenges. The material reflects light intensely and can easily bloom or produce unflattering hotspots. We spend considerable time in pre-production planning the exact angle of every light source relative to the garment's surface.

Post-processing is minimal by design. We believe the integrity of the image should be established in camera, not rescued in editing. Colour grading is gentle and consistent across each album — a warm slight desaturation that recalls analogue film.

The workflow from shoot to publication typically takes two to three weeks, including selection, retouching review, and translation of album descriptions into four languages.
